Practical techniques in Anesthisia and applied principles in Advanced Life Support

Target audience: English module medical students 3rd-6th year

Knowing how to evaluate and manage in-hospital cardiac arrests, tremendously increases patients’ survival and it represents also essential knowledge to every medical doctor. Therefore this course aims to prepare medical students in their clinical years to act on the spot as a team, using the latest European guidelines for Advanced life support.

This ALS course will be divided into two days:

-The first day consists of two parts:
– A theoretical part where students will learn the European guidelines for ALS.
– A practical part in which students will be divided into teams, each team will attend a training station every turn.

-During the second day, students will evaluate their knowledge both theoretically and practically by doing the learned procedures integrated in scenarios based on real medical cases.

While going through the practical stations, the participants will learn the following maneuvers and develop skills such as:
– Airway management in advanced life support (Intubation, BVM, OP Airway, LMA).
– Maintenance of a vascular access through intraosseous puncture, arterial blood gas, and peripheral venous catheterization (IOP, ABG, PVC).
– How to gain central access through a central venous catheter (CVC).

According to the ALS-ERC guidelines:
– How to recognize life threatening rhythms and causes of sudden cardiac death.
– Means of resuscitation (mechanical, electrical, pharmacologic).
– Post-resuscitation care (ROSC return of spontaneous circulation).
